Science

At Berger Primary School, we want all children to develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of scientific learning and discovery.

Our science curriculum encourages children to be inquisitive about the world, nurtures their innate curiosity and enables them to develop a range of skills that are useful across their learning.

Science teaching actively encourages children to work both independently and with others in practical ways, developing secure subject knowledge, investigative skills and scientific vocabulary.

The National Curriculum provides a structure and skill development for the science curriculum being taught throughout the school, this is linked, where possible to the theme topics to provide a creative scheme of work.

The Curriculum for Science aims to ensure that all pupils:

∙ Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics

∙ Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them

∙ Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
