Forest School: Making Gods Eyes

In Forest school Poplar class learnt how to make ‘Gods Eyes’ out of sticks and wool. It was tricky but some children were able to make some very nice pieces.

Trip to the Synagogue

Year two visited South Woodford Synagogue. They were able to view the Ark and the Torah scrolls and learnt about the role of the Rabbi. It was very interesting.

Art inspired by Alma Thomas

Poplar class learnt about Alma Thomas and her struggles being a female African American artist. They used a sponge dabbing technique to produce some artwork that was inspired by her.

Learning about fractions

Children used counters to learn how to make fractions of amounts. For one half, they made two equal groups, for one third they made three equal groups and for one quarter, they had to make four equal groups.

The Big Draw

The whole school took part in The Big Draw. The theme was ‘Make the Change’ and discussions were had about what changes children could make to have a positive impact on the environment. Children then drew these changes with chalk in the playground. Parents were invited to join the children and help them with their ideas.

Making wraps for our picnic in DT

Poplar class taste tested some ingredients and then made wraps. Then they ate them at the picnic. They evaluated on how they could make their wraps better.

First Aid

Poplar class have learnt basic first aid. They learnt what to look out for when delivering basic first aid and how to check whether someone is breathing or not.
