In literacy, we read and followed instructions and learnt about the different features in an instruction text. We made cucumber sandwiches!

RE - The Crucifixion

We learnt about the last week of Jesus’ life in RE and created the hill where Jesus was crucified.

Continents and oceans

We made atlases using paper plates to locate the seven continents and five oceans

Art - Fabric habitat printing

We drew different habitats and printed them onto fabric

PHSE - vegetable patch

In PHSE, we have learnt about where fruit and vegetables come from and how they grow. We created our own vegetable patches using paint.

Art - vehicle sculptures

Carrying on from our transport topic, we designed and made vehicles using clay

DT - Transport

We have been learning about the different modes of transport and their uses. We made our own vehicles and included the different features; wheels, chassis, washers and axels.

DT - The Great Fire of London

We have been learning about The Great Fire of London. We made Tudor houses using papier maché and painted them in a Tudor style

Roller printing

We created some artwork by drawing the buildings from The Great Fire of London and made some roller prints of this

Mosque making

We have been learning about Islam this term and made mosques. We made sure we included the domes and minarets

Forest School: Making a shelter

At Forest School we made our own shelters. We have been learning about everyday materials and we investigated to see which material would work the best to protect us from the rain.

Music Workshop

We had a music workshop and created different rhythms and beats. We also created some lyrics about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole

Portraits

We painted silhouettes of Florence Nightingale using a technique based on the artist Paul Klee.

Herbal medicine

We have been learning about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We followed instructions and made herbal medicine inspired by them.

Forest School: Making Gods Eyes

In Forest school Poplar class learnt how to make ‘Gods Eyes’ out of sticks and wool. It was tricky but some children were able to make some very nice pieces.

Trip to the Synagogue

Year two visited South Woodford Synagogue. They were able to view the Ark and the Torah scrolls and learnt about the role of the Rabbi. It was very interesting.

Art inspired by Alma Thomas

Poplar class learnt about Alma Thomas and her struggles being a female African American artist. They used a sponge dabbing technique to produce some artwork that was inspired by her.

Learning about fractions

Children used counters to learn how to make fractions of amounts. For one half, they made two equal groups, for one third they made three equal groups and for one quarter, they had to make four equal groups.
